Overview
Become a Phlebotomy Technician
Become a critical team member in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and blood donor centers. It’s an especially exciting time to begin a phlebotomy career as new types of tests are developed, and lab tech positions grow.
Training includes:
- Drawing blood from patients and blood donors
- Evaluating patients’ ability to withstand the procedure and helping them feel comfortable
- Explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients and answering questions
- Performing basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels
- Preparing blood, urine and other specimens for testing
- Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials
National Certification
Upon successful completion of this training program (in either format described below), you would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national examination.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, you are required to:
- Be a minimum age of 18 years old
- Possess a high school diploma, GED or HiSet
- Comply with 91¶¶Òõ’s application procedures
- Comply with 91¶¶Òõ’s tuition requirements
Class Format
This eight-week certification training program includes 160 hours of instruction:
- 40 hours in-class instructor-led
- 120 hours of practicum at a facility
Before receiving a certificate of completion, you need to pass an exit test and clinical site evaluation.

Program Costs
Program Cost: $1,500*
*The text book is included in the cost of tuition. Additional fees such as scrubs, insurance, and exam fees are the responsibility of the student.
