Substance Misuse Prevention, Cert.

Substance Misuse Prevention, Cert.

Overview
Overview

Overview

The Substance Misuse Prevention Certificate will provide you with the educational background and the exposure to the Human Services system you’ll needed to work as a professional in the field of substance abuse prevention. Potential jobs include student assistance professional (SAP) within school districts, community coalition worker, grants writer/coordinator, family services specialist, mental health service worker, youth counselor and youth diversion worker.

Coursework for the certificate will provide you with the education, skills and competencies for assessing, planning and implementing substance abuse prevention education, awareness and activities within a school, agency and/or community. Finding work in substance abuse prevention will enable you to earn the required hours of experience necessary for application to become a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) through the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) as endorsed by the State of New Hampshire.

There is a workforce deficit of Certified Prevention Specialists (CPS) receiving national certification from IC&RC. Currently there are more than 50 schools, agencies and communities within 13 regional public health networks who contract with the state for such funding.  These contractors are finding it difficult to hire people with the proper credentials.

This training is for those who are not yet in the field or those working in the field with an interest in substance misuse prevention. It would also be a useful certificate if you work in related fields, such as nursing or guidance counseling.
